Happy Halloween!!!

Hi, kids!

This morning 6.E and I had a "very special" Halloween celebration. Professora Maria José Lampreia and 6.H came to (= vieram) our CALL lesson 2 and joined our Halloween fun! There were 50 students in Sala TIC and they all behaved (= portaram-se) brilliantly and participated very enthusiastically in all the activities. One of them was dressed up (= estava mascarada) as a vampire. Yes, we had a vampire in class! Wow!!!

They all sent Ramona a voice message (double-click 6E and 6H in the orange "My Voicemail" rectangle on the right). And before the end of class they all carved/made their virtual pumpkin. These Halloween pumpkins are called "Jack-O-Lanterns". Here it is!

When 6.H left (= saíram) the classroom, they all smiled and said "Thank you!" to me. Now it's my turn (= é a minha vez) to say "thank you" to 6.H and to my colleague Maria José for a great idea, and to welcome them to our blogs. Please send your comments! Don't forget to write only (= apenas) your first name and your class. Enjoy our activities!

Yesterday 6.C and 6.D had the same Halloween lesson. Listen to their voice messages to Ramona (double-click 6.C and 6.D in the orange "My Voicemail" rectangle on the right). And here are  the "Jack-O-Lanterns" that they carved.

I hope you will come back to this page and continue doing Halloween activities online or go to CALL lesson 2 and do the same.

Thank you all for a memorable (= inesquecível) Halloween!!!!

Here's a surprise that was sent on Halloween, but I only saw it (= só o vi) in my Yahoo mail this afternoon (2Nov). It's a very cool and crazy Halloween e-card from an English teacher-friend in Venezuela, Doris Molero. What a sweet and fun idea, Doris! Thank you!!!

Hi again, kids! Still another surprise!

Carla Arena, our Brazilian teacher-friend, had problems with Comments in our blog at Halloween - probably too many witches flying in cyberspace!!! -, so she sent me this message for you and three pictures. Please click on the thumbnails (little pics below) to see the big photos.

Dear Friends from Portugal,

This is Carla Arena, your Brazilian friend. Did you have a spooky Halloween? I'm sure you learned a lot of English with your computer class with your wonderful teacher Teresa.
My Haloween was F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C! I'm an English teacher in Brasilia, so I love to dress up on the week of Halloween and have fun with my students. Below, you'll see me, The Witch, with my adult students. The other day I dressed as a Baiana Rastafari, someone from Salvador, a city in the northeast of Brazil.

Did you like my costumes? How was your Halloween? Did you go "Trick or Treat"?

Beijos from Brazil,

Carla

The photos are great, aren't they? Carla knows how to "have fun"!!!

It's Halloween!! Have fun!!!

Hi, kids!

Halloween is here, so I have several activities that you can do to enjoy this week. But first read this simple text.

"Halloween is one of the most famous holidays in the U.S., and it is on October 31. People carve pumpkins and make funny faces on them. These are called "Jack-O-Lanterns." On October 31, children wear a special costume such as a witch, ghost, or clown. They go to many houses and they knock on the door saying, "Trick or Treat!" It means that if people don't give them a treat, they will play some kind of trick on the house. So, usually people give candy to them."

And then try one of these simple quizzes about it (that I made for you): a fill-in the blank quiz and a short answer quiz (that you send to me to correct).

I also created four more different exercises about the parts of the body (concentration, flascards, matching and word search).

Rodrigo, your colleague from 6.C, created a Halloween movie. Watch it! It's very cute (= giro)!

Now enjoy different activities that I chose (= escolhi) for you!

Make you own virtual pumpkin (click the circle of your choice)

Match images and words (concentration)

Match costumes to words (drag and drop)

Halloween match game (concentration)

Halloween word search (word search = sopa de letras)

Halloween vocabulary game (learn and spell)

The Typing of the Ghosts (spell and destroy the ghosts)

Label the skeleton (name parts of the body: you need to print it out)

ZimmerTwins: how to join!

This afternoon I received the first voice message from a student at home. It was a fantastic surprise!

It was Rodrigo telling me about his problems "registering" at ZimmerTwins, the place where I made the "CALL lessons" movie and asking for my help at school on Monday. Well, I decided to help him immediately with a voice message. You can hear both messages in the voiceboard. I'm including the texts of both messages, because my help to him may also help other students.

Hello teacher!!! How are you??? Look teacher, at the moment, I'm doing a Zimmer Twins Movie, but i can't register... Could you help me at Mondays class??
Thank you for all this funny moments!
See you!

Hi, Rodrigo!
What a wonderful surprise to hear your message! Thank you!
Let's see if I can help you before Monday.
-- Go to the ZimmerTwins site at http://www.zimmertwins.ca/ . It's in Canada.
-- Click the "Join!" link.
-- Fill in (= preenche) the info(rmation) about your birthday. (I don't think there is a minimum age.)
-- Click the "Join the Site" orangish button.
-- Fill in all the blanks with the red asterisk (*). They are a 'must' (= obrigatorios).
-- Do not fill in things that aren't necessary.
-- Click the "Join the Site" button when you are finished.
Last but not least, you need to wait for a message from ZimmerTwins with your nickname and password. Keep (= guarda) this message!
Please let me know if this works. I hope so!!! I mean, I hope it works!  :-)
Hugs

Two new exercises

   Hi, kids!

Yesterday evening I made a new discovery (= fiz uma nova descoberta): "how to" create online (= como criar na Internet) the listening exercise about the "house" that you did in class last week. Click on the link and do it. And then send me your opinion in text or in a voice message (the orange box on the right, remember?).

Your teacher friends Dafne from Caracas, Venezuela, and Hala from Khartoum, Sudan, loved it! I hope you like it, too!

I also created the same exercise, House2, as a crossword puzzle (= palavras cruzadas). I know that some of you love them! What do you think? Send me your opinion!

See you in class tomorrow! Have a nice Sunday!

Hugs from your teacher
