What we did in class

Here's Abigail (6. E) to tell us what we did in class in the last two weeks (Nov 13-30):

-- practicing the Gerund and verbs with the Gerund (hate, enjoy, like, etc),

-- reading about the United States and talking about time zones,

-- CALL lesson 3 at Zimmertwins, and,

-- a test (it was so, so or 6.E).

Gulbenkian Foundation

    Hi, kids!

So many things always go on at the same time - a good example is CALL lesson 3 about ZimmerTwins movies, another big success, according to your enthusiasm all week -, that I don't always have the time to post / publish (= publicar) things here.

On Nov. 18 many of you went to Fundação Gulbenkian in Lisbon to listen to a concert. For some of you, it was your first time at Gulbenkian and a first time at a "classical music" concert. Click here to see a photo of the main façade (= fachada principal) of the Foundation and another of the Grand Auditorium, where you were. It's beautiful, isn't it?

Do you remember all the things I told you about the Gulbenkian Foundation in class? Your Music teacher told me (= disse-me) that you knew (= sabiam) many things when she talked about it in class. She was very impressed and you said that I told you. I'm happy that you paid attention.

Please leave your comments here: Which composer/s did you listen to? Did you like their music? Did you enjoy the experience? Do you like classical music? Did you like the Gulbenkian building (= edifício) and the Grand Auditorium?

I hope to hear from you!

What we did in class

Here's André N. (6. D) to tell us what we did in class in the past two weeks (Oct 30 - Nov 8). Remember that we only had two days of school last week.

Dia de S. Martinho / Verão de S. Martinho

Filipe from 6.C wrote this text to explain to all our reader-friends what "Dia de S. Martinho and Verão de S. Martinho" are. (Verão de S. Martinho is the equivalent to Indian Summer). I made some corrections to clarify a couple of sentences, but the mahority of the text is Filipe's work. Thank you, Filipe!

Hi teacher!
Here's the "Legend of the Summer of S.Martinho".
In one stormy day went S. Martinho, mounted in his horse, when he saw a beggar almost naked, tremendously cold, with his frozen hand, begging.
S. Martinho did not hesitate: he stopped the horse and he put his hand in the one of the beggar's hands, affectionately, and, after that, with his sword, he cut his cape in half and gave half to the beggar.
And, although badly warmed for the torrential rain, the beggar was prepared to continue his way, full of happiness. But, suddenly, the storm stopped, the sky was clear and a summer sun flooded the land of light and heat.
One says that, so that this act of goodness was not erased from the memory of men, every year, in this same time, God ceases the cold time for some days, and the sky and the land smile with the blessing of a hot and miraculous sun.
Bye!
Filipe 6ºC

Here are drawings about the legend made by students of 1. ciclo (elementary students) in a school in the North, Agrupamento de Escolas de Fafe (http://www.eb1-sede-2.rcts.pt/). Great work, kids!

On this day, November 11, people all over Portugal celebrate "Magusto", a festival of roasted chestnuts and (a very light) wine, because it's the time of year when the chestnuts are picked and the wine is ready to be tasted. Chestnuts abd red wine are a "yummy" mix!!! Happy S. Martinho!!!

Here are some pictures of chestnuts and the carts where they are roasted and sold in the streets.

What we did in class

Here is Inês F. from 6.C reminding us about what we did in class last week (Oct 23-26).

We had CALL lesson 1 and we thanked the teachers for their messages. And we continued reviewing the Simple Present.

Comments from parents / Comentários dos pais

Almost 5 months ago I invited the parents to say a few words about their children's work and I received a few comments. A new school year is under way and your children have already done several things. So... here I am once again inviting you to collaborate with your comments, because your children are doing wonderful work in the CALL lessons, some participate regularly in both blogs and even make experiments "from home" with programs we use in class.

Please take some time to look at the two blogs together with your children, because they can clarify things or call your attention to what has been more relevant for them. And don't forget to leave your comment in one of them. Thank you!

Obrigado!

Listen to the flute!

Yesterday I subbed the music teacher for 6.E and five girls - Abigail, Bárbara, Catarina, Fábia and Francisca - asked me if they could play a song for me on the flute. It was a very pleasant piece.

When they finished, I asked if they would play a second time so I could record. They were very happy! Here it is! It's called "Brincadeiras em terceiras". Congrats, girls! You played very well!

Then they did drawings based on the Halloween CALL lesson earlier that morning, but that's for another post!
