Describing yourself

Two weeks ago (Feb 5), in class with 6.D, I had six students adapt sentences we studied in the unit on "Appearances" to briefly describe their physical appearance. You will hear Leonor, Nataniel, Ricardo (the tall one), Diana, Ricardo (the short one) and Natalia from Moldova. Here's the end product.

Yesterday (Feb 22) 6.E also did a recording of their physical appearance. Here are Fábia, Telmo, Débora, Duarte, Afonso, Catarina, Francisco and Patrícia describing themselves.

6.C also recorded physical appearances today. Here are Frederico, Margarida, Lourenço, Andreia, Miguel, InêsF, Tiago and Raquel describing themselves.

Hi, Abigail!
I agree that the 'recording' is very nice. Maybe we can do in your class.
What do you mean by 'inpretius'? Maybe you can say the Portuguese word and I'll help.
See you on Thursday! :-)
Hugs

Hi, students and "Radical Teacher."

I enjoyed listening to your descriptions of yourselves. All of you did an excellent job: parabéns!

When I was a baby, I had very fair, curly hair and dark blue eyes. As I became older, both my hair and my eyes became darker and my hair became straighter. Now that I'm an old man, I've lost a lot of my hair and am partly bald; what remains of my hair is white. My eyes are blue-gray. When I was young, I was average in height and build. Now, compared to younger people, I'm short, but my build is still average.

I have always lived in the U.S. I was born and raised in the state of Illinois (in the central part of the U.S.) Now I live in the state of Arizona, but I have also lived in Texas, Oklahoma, California, and Oregon.

Abraços and best wishes from your friend in Phoenix, Arizona!

Dennis

Hi, Dennis!
A few weeks ago I gave my students a quiz on the Simple Past of "Be" based on a text about me.

_When my teacher was little_
My first time in school was in England. I was a little girl.
I was in an English school, but I didn't speak (= não falava)
English.
My middle brother was also in the same school, but we were
in different classes, because he was a little older. We were only
together at lunch time.
I was five years old. I was short and thin. My hair was light brown
and short.

I am a "few" ;-) years older today, but my hair is still light brown and of medium length. I'm still short, but I'm not thin as I used to be. That's part of life, I guess!!!

Thank you for a wonderful text that I may just use in class one of these days, if you don't mind.
Beijinhos, Teresa

Hello Teresa, this is a message for your students: I met Teresa in the TESOL Convention in Seattle last month. TESOL is a huge affair with 8000 participants! I found it a bit overwhelming I must admit. It was my first trip to the States and I enjoyed it very much. The highlights for me (apart from meeting your fantastic teacher) were the oh so cool guys riding their single speed fixed gear bicycles around the hilly streets of Seattle and a shop called "Dusty Strings" in Fremont where I bought a handmade American banjo. For some odd reason there is a giant size statue of Lenin on the main street of this leafy Seattle suburb.

Hello to the author of comment #12!
I wish I knew who you are, but you didn't leave your name. Were you in one of my presentations or did we meet by chance?
I also found it interesting that there are so many bikers in Seattle.
Why did you but the banjo? Can you play it? Or did you just like it? I've always enjoyed listening to the banjo.
Hope you return to our blog, say where we met in the convention and write your name.
Best, Teresa

Congradulations! Loved your idea. Our school wants us to follow your example. How do you find the time to develop such an ambitious project?

Hello, colleagues!
So sorry you didn't leave your names. It's always much nicer to greet you by your name.
It's nice to know that Portuguese colleagues like the work I'm doing my students and I are doing.
This is a "labor of love" so I dedicate as much time as I need to it. I love what I do and many students do too. And that's the best reason to kepp on going. :-)
If I can help you in any way, please leave me a mail message through Motime, or go to my homepage and leave one there.

Best wishes for you both and your school in these projects,
Teresa Almeida d'Eça
